August had us down in the Shire again for Abseiling, The drops were just as scary and the instructors just as vigilant. A great day had by all.
After checking that everybody had a map (nobody except leader) and knew where we were going (supposedly everybody) we set off on the secret hike camp on Friday night, 2 leaders and 6 scouts. to make things interesting Lucky the illustrious leader missed a turning and walked us into a dead end. Learning oportunity #1 take your own maps!!!!!!
The walk was fun and mostly down hill, Cat brought Music for all of us some good some modern.
Cooking was on woodfires, and the pairs had shopped for themselves on the thursday night so I was pleased to see there was evidence of things other than just chocolate. We all had a smashing meal and retired to our tents. Breakfast was bacon for some and chocolate for others so all the food groups were covered. We were cleared away and on our way home by 9am Saturday morning. A great hike with shopping, cooking and navigation lessons learned.
May 14th 21 of us traveled to Camden airfield for the Air Activities course. The course started with lessons in flight then moved onto radio procedures. All the scouts had a go at landing various aircraft on the simulators with some successes and some tragedies.
The highlight of the day was a flight in a cessna 172 4 seat plane, the weather was perfect and the pilots were great fun showing us Warragamba dam and southwest Sydney.
unfortunately that is not a cessna 172 but it was awesome to be this close to it taxiing and taking off.
Ah there is ours. Hunter with 2 scouts about to board their flight
I don’t think we could have picked a better day.
Lunch and badges all round to finish.
