Scout Leaders Wanted

Our scout group, 1st/2nd Harbord, has been operating for 80 years. During that time, many hundreds of young citizens of our area have developed their leadership skills and benefited from the challenging activities we offer. The group operates on an entirely voluntary basis, with community members involved in leading and managing activities for youth members. About 50 youth members of our community are currently involved in the cub and scout sections and 8 adult leaders.

The aim of Scouting is to encourage the physical, intellectual, social, and spiritual development of young people so that they can play a constructive role as responsible citizens and members of our community. This is achieved through a strong and active program that inspires young people to do their best and to always be prepared. Scouting offers young people an environment of ‘structured risk taking’, where they can test themselves in positive, proactive ways at an age where they may otherwise be diverted into anti-social activities.

Adult Leaders in scouting are men and women aged 18 years and over. Leadership provides an opportunity to make a personal contribution to the future of our community.

The rewards of becoming a Leader in the Scout Association include:

  • personal satisfaction from doing something positive
  • helping young people to develop positive attitudes
  • learning new skills
  • helping the community
  • sharing the fun and excitement of scouting with other adults and young people
  • for parents who are leaders, sharing and enjoying activities with their children
